Finally, pics!

well the converting-work is mostly done on the terminators. they've been lying in storage for close to a year, assembled but lacking GS. as theyre the easiest job to get started i decided to start with them, to get me back into the groove, so to speak. all they needed was a spot of gap-filling, GSing on the greaves and (yest to be completed) GS work on their feet and, in the case of one of the termies, a left hand, as well as some work integrating the skull-eagle onto the storm-shields.

here's a group-shot:

4th guy from the left still needs a left hand, and quite  a few feet need some GS work

im actually really pleased with the poses and weapons on these guys, especially the flanking guys on the left and right. the spear and angel are two common chapter emblems, which will be depicted in various guises on their banners and personal heraldry. once the GK termies have been released ill probably use some shoulder shields to add to these guys, to increase individuality with personal heraldry.

onto the individual pics:

i love the commander model, with the servo-skulls and parchments. im hoping to be able to do some free-hand on the armour once he's painted.

thinking of which, ill be painting these guys a veined bone colour with some dark green detail (a reverse of the normal marines - which ill try post pics of soon.

WTF? warners rebooting batman AGAIN?

well, id like to post tidbits of cool geekery-related info here from time-to-time as well as my modelling exploits (again, not the catwalk variety). well here's such a thing, taken from empireonline.com:

Despite the setbacks it faced the last time Warner Bros. tried to gather its DC Comics-based heroes together to form the Justice League, that isn’t putting the studio off from moving ahead with the plan, according to executive Jeff Robinov, who revealed that they’re looking to reboot Batman again.

“We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman,” Robinov tells the LA Times. “Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”
The mention of Nolan and his regular producing partner/wife being involved makes us think it’ll hopefully maintain the high standards that the director has set for Bruce Wayne, but the fact remains that the more down-to-earth setting for Nolan’s take on the character would have to be ditched if Warners is going to see him share the screen with the super-powered likes of Superman (now taking the form of Henry Cavill) and Green Lantern in the League.
Plus it seem that Robinov’s target for the team-up is 2013, which seems like a nearly unworkable date given that The Dark Knight won’t return until summer next year and Zack Snyder’s Superman won’t even arrive until that December.
We don’t doubt that Robinov wants to get his company’s version of The Avengers up and running, and given that he says a Justice League script (as well as standalone films for The Flash and Wonder Woman, despite the new TV version) is being written, he may yet see his dream realised. But 2013? We’ll see. And what do you lot think? Too soon? Good call? Sound off!

all i have to say about this is WTF!? lol

anyway, expect pics of the angels of censure termies up  in a few hours

decision-time

Well, long story short, i've been doing a bit of thinking about what i really want to be doing... and i couldnt decide! one thing ive nboticed during my modelling exploits (not the catwalk kind, but the scalpel and polystyrene cement and plastic figures kind) is that i tend to have pre-set attention spans. i usually spend a solid year working on models/paintings/comissions before i burn out and competely drop everything in favour of my writing. i think a more moderate approach would be better - so im thinking of sepnding a little time week on random things, so that inthe eventuality that i get bored with something i can easily switch to something else (the marvels of super sculpey - not being constrained by putty curing-time, i can see this being very helpful!).

im looking at my truescale marine parts and will likely cast up a set of standing legs and torso to cast up for use as a base on the models. a good and easy way forward, which will sae much time ad allow me more freedomto embelish models with GS details. i think ill start with these and a gap-filling exercise on the Angels of CEnsure terminators to get them ready for painting. i have a day off on thursday so will hope to get started then (unless my girlfriend manages to drag me out of the house for a picnic... gah!)

ah: beginnings

well, i thought i was out of the hobby for good (save the odd spot of forum lurking and weekly website surfing) but, you cant keep a good dog down (or is that bad dog?). who knows? :) all i know is the bug's bitten again and i've a terrible urge to scratch and itch or something like that. so enough with the stupid anecdotes and onto the plan.

"Do i look like a guy with a plan?" said the joker, and ironically, i think he did have a plan. unfortunately, i'm not as forward thinking as he was so i dont really have a plan, just a vague idea of what i may or may not do in the forseeable future.

  • Marines of some sort, of course. though what scale and/or amounts of converting is still up for debate. i've got three different scales in mind (normal, my crazy world eater-style true-scaling [though hopefully more detailed and crisper] and something bigger - think half-way between the FW display-scale marine and my truescale world-eaters and you'll have a good idea). of course i have different plans for different scales: continuing my Angels of Censure (link to old blog on Warseer) army in normal scale; continuing the world eaters and other random marines in truescale (as well as at least one squad of Howling Griffins marines in the same scale) and a sculpting challenge in something about 90mm scale; which in the case of a marine would make it easily 110mm of not larger. only time will tell what (if any) of these i do, and in what order.

a terminator from the angels of censure
  • Orks. more specifically, some long overdue commissions and finishing off whats left of my original bad moons army - i've a gigantic walker thats in dire need of a lick of paint and about 1500 points worth of random plastic model parts weighing down my bitz box. Here's a pic of the walker:

  • Random sculpting goodness. i've stocked up my sculpting supplies, inculding green and brown stuff, procreate, milliput and, for the first time, some super sculpey, which i'm looking forward to trying out. id love to try my hand at some cthulhu-esque sculpting projects and maybe some stuff based off of stories and mythologies i've created. we'll see what comes of it. here's a pic of the type of thing i have in mind for this project:

  • something nurglesque would be cool too, or maybe a daemonspawn diorama with lots of weird characterful models, buts thats a lot of stuff to think about for now.

at the moment im leaning towards the angels of censure and a truescale howling griffins unit, which i really want to take my time on and model up to the best of my abilities and maybe push myself a bit. fingers crossed ill actually ahve some progress in the next few days...
